A day of life in an informal settlement

Hi My name is Thato.


Just a normal day well in my house. I woke up and walked to school. Okay, I’m at school and my best friend Thabo is here. At school I was famished, because I didn’t have food at my house/shack. Time for class, I share a seat with Thabo our teacher Miss  L/ Miss Levete let us pick who we sit with. We share chairs because we are 60 plus Miss L in my class!



I’m sharing a textbook with Thabo, Matthew, Sibusiso, Lerato and Lisa. I wish we had more textbooks so we wouldn’t have to be in groups. That would be the greatest. School ended now and I walk home. I wish we had a car or a TV, it would be marvelous! I got home and now I do my homework. Time to go to Thabo’s house. Today Thabo and I decided to look for goods people dropped or lost. Ouch! I tripped on the road! At that moment I thought I wish we had a fitting road like the city people. Yay mummy’s back! She always tries to come back from work with an appetizing treat. I also wish I had a phone like those I-ph-ph-phones right ? I said it right, I think I said it right. In my township we don’t have an iStore. I have many things I wish we had but the most is decent houses! In my house we only have one bedroom and I sleep with my mom and dad. Luckily our walls are strong enough to hold the water out.


I really don’t like that we don’t have a proper bathroom! I always have to go outside to get to the toilet

Grade 4 camp

We went on a camp in February the campsite was in Simonsberg. The Quail class went with the Guinea Fowl class. Before we got to Simonsberg we went to Giraffe House.They showed us a reptile presentation.I got to touch a snake it was a bit scary because I am scared of snakes mostly the venomis ones.We also got to feed the animals I fed a llama and a Giraffe .When we where finished in Giraffe House we went to Simonsberg. We did a lot of activities my favorite one was S.T.O.P stop.It's basically like you can walk wile they are spelling the word stop. We also did zip lining it was scary but also fun.The mud swing was hard but we eventually made it past except for Claire and Ethan.They tried to get the swing but they couldn't so Claire tried to jump but she missed the swing and fell into the mud.
